How to Get Your Annual Free Credit Report

There is exactly one website legally authorized by the Federal Trade Commission to provide you with your credit report annually from all three credit bureaus. You can get the reports from Experian, Equifax, TransUnion or all three of them.
It is even possible to get one free report every 4 months in a year and keep a close eye on your credit history.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • personal information
  1. Step 1

    Go to AnnualCreditReport.com. This is the only website authorized by the federal trade commission to give credit reports for free.

  2. Step 2

    Identify your state of residence and click on it. Then enter your name, date of birth and social security number.

  3. Step 3

    Choose which credit report you want - Experian, Equifax, TransUnion or all three.

  4. Step 4

    Now you will be directed to the credit bureau's Web site. Create a special user name and password and answer some secret questions only you would know.

  5. Step 5

    Once you are finished come back to AnnualCreditReport.com and follow instructions and your credit report is one your way!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can choose to have all correspondence omit part of your social security number for your safety and protection
  • You can request one credit report every 4 months, so you can keep an close tab on your credit report.
  • If anyone is asking you to pay anything, you are on the wrong website.
