March is National Woman’s History Month. It is time to honor the sacrifices, accomplishments and contributions made by the women of America. It is time to celebrate the opportunities and dreams given us by generations past. It is time to praise women!
The 2009 Honorees, a list developed by The National Women’s History Project, are brilliant women who served their communities and provided positive, solid foundations for us to build on. They are political activists, organizers, human rights activists, authors, environmentalists, visionaries, educators, historians and artists. These women challenge forces invisible to the complacent eye. They fight for equality as others relish in its supposed existence; this select group of women rallies against injustice and advocates for those not able. For these reasons and more, we need to celebrate March as National Women’s History Month.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Celebrate the women closest to you, be it your mom, sister, cousin, or daughter. Acknowledge her accomplishments and praise her for her strengths. You can write her a letter or give her a card. Take her to dinner or take an ad out in your local paper. Let your women know how you honor them, respect them and regard them as amazing.

  2. Step 2

Take your friends and family on a tour of a local woman’s museum. If you don’t have one near you, go to any public museum and make a game of it. Whoever finds the most exhibits or works created by women gets to pick what’s for dinner that night. You can do the same thing at an art gallery.

  3. Step 3

Contact your city council and ask them to issue a proclamation honoring March as being the National Women’s History Month. You could write the proclamation.

  4. Step 4

Ask bookstores and libraries what programs they have lined up to honor and celebrate women throughout the month of March. Suggest local women who might be good candidates for a recognition ceremony.

  5. Step 5

Conduct your own recognition ceremony. Ask your friends, community leaders, teachers and neighbors to nominate up to three women they believe should be recognized in March for a National Woman’s History Month celebration. Rent a hall, use your home or find another suitable location where you can have a small luncheon and praise the women nominees.

Tips & Warnings
  • Surprise the women you're celebrating with a chauffeured night out on the town.
  • Don't limit your celebration to the month of March. Random days of reverence mean more than dictated dates.
