      If you do not already have an Internet Service Provider (ISP), then you'll need to obtain one. There are many out there to choose from. Many ISPs supply customers with a modem. Ask about a modem with wireless capabilities. If you can't obtain one from your ISP, you can purchase a wireless modem at almost any electronics retailer.

      Purchase a wireless adapter for you laptop if your laptop doesn't have it built in. You can purchase a wireless adapter that fits into an existing PCMIA slot or an available USB outlet on your laptop. A wireless adapter can be purchased at almost any electronics retailer. You can ask a sales associate to show you what one is the best for your laptop.

      Insert your wireless adapter into the appropriate slot, depending on the type of wireless adapter. Your laptop should install the appropriate driver automatically. If it doesn't, insert the disc supplied and follow the instructions. If you have an adapter built in, make sure it is turned on. There is usually a "Wi-Fi" switch on the front of the actual laptop.

      A window appears, showing you the available connections. Click on your wireless network connection. You should now be connected wirelessly to the Internet.
