Things You'll Need:

  • EHR
  • E-prescribing
  • Management software
  1. Step 1

By using it as a time management tool (Speed up receptionist process) the EHR is a great tool to assist you with the paper flow from the front office to the back.

  2. Step 2

    Over all workflow process tool
The EHR should be a tool that is traded off. The front office staff generates the information, medical assistant uses it to record vitals and symptoms and the clinicians use it to document clinical findings.

  3. Step 3

Communication tool among staff (no more sticky notes) The EHR can be used to communicate with each other while the patient is in the examination room. It can send reminders when the lab is ready for review.

  4. Step 4

By using specialized templates to expedite the charting process for clinicians
This is a great part of the EHR. The clinicians can use the template format to speed up the documenting process. It will even give you guidance in selecting the E/M code.

  5. Step 5

Eliminate transcription services and still have legible documentation
The transcription cost can be decreased or completely eliminated.

  6. Step 6

By bridging the gap among health care providers. (interconnectivity) This is great for the referral process or just to link to the hospital, pharmacy or other health care providers across the state.

  7. Step 7

For feedback to patient on medications (information on medication) Patients like to be informed and the EHR is great tool for assisting the patient medications and their effects. It is also great with follow-up instructions such as diet or physical therapy.

  8. Step 8

E-prescribing. Make it easier for yourself and on your patients with e-prescribing and send the script on over to the pharmacy. It is also great to ensure tracking and security.

  9. Step 9

Sending out automatic patient satisfaction questionnaires for follow-up. Most hospitals and physicians offices want to make sure that they are servicing their patients well. Send them a note or questionnaire with the EHR and make it work for continued or new service.
