Do you hate it when you pour a can of Coke into a glass of ice, and all the ice cubes fuse together into one big lump? Here's how to stop them from doing that, and have independently floating ice cubes instead.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • glass
  • ice cubes
  • can of Coke or other soft drink
  • cold running water
  1. Step 1

Fill your glass with ice cubes.

  2. Step 2

Fill the ice-cube-filled glass with cold tap water from the sink.

  3. Step 3

Place a clean hand over the top of the glass, then turn it upside down over the sink to let the water drain back out while holding the ice in.

Note: you may wish to wash your hands before you do this step. Alternately, use a clean fork or spoon or other kitchen utensil to block the ice into the glass while draining it.

  4. Step 4

Turn it right side up and firmly shake the glass a couple times if you'd like to check that the ice cubes are loose. Fill it with your Coke (or other soft drink). Voila - individually free-floating ice cubes!

This should also work well with other fizzy drinks you want on the rocks.

on 10/15/2009 askapeach: It should work fine as long as you don't put the cups back into the freezer. Putting them back into the freezer might cause them to all freeze together into a permanent lump - and then the water rinsing trick won't work anymore either.

on 10/15/2009 Great trick! Will it still work if you do it ahead of time to several glasses, i.e. for a party? Thanks
