Make a Panini Sandwich

Eating a panini sandwich makes it feel more expensive that a regular sub sandwich. The grilling feature is great, and does not have to be a wallet buster.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bread
  • Meats
  • Cheese (optional)
  • Toppings of your choice
  • Condiments
  1. Step 1

Select a dense bread to make your sandwich. You should not use regular white bread. It will not hold up as well as say Foccacia or Ciabatta bread.

  2. Step 2

The meats. . . typically panini in Italy is made with cured meats like salami, pepperoni, or prosciutto. However, you can make your sandwich with any meat that you like. I have even used left over grilled chicken.

  3. Step 3

Next add cheese. Any cheese will do just make sure it is thinly sliced so that when you gill it, it will melt easily.

  4. Step 4

You can add any vegetables that you would like to this. Pre-grilled vegetables are the best. Remember that it is a cold sandwich so you may want to add your lettuce later.

  5. Step 5

After assembling your sandwich, put on your panini grill and heat as directed. Or you can use your backyard grill also. Just use low heat under the area that you are grilling your sandwich. Press with your spatula for 5 seconds or so on each side. Enjoy!!!

on 2/17/2009 Great article. We made our first paninis a few weeks ago. We used my large George Foreman grill as our BBQ grill is under many feet of snow! 5*'s
