Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- sand wedge
- golf ball
-
Step 1
This technique is intended for green side sand traps and are not designed for fairway bunkers. As you approach the sand trap your ball is in, pay attention to the amount of ball is visible in the sand. Enter the trap from behind the ball in direct line with the flag stick.
-
Step 2
Spread your legs at least 2 times your shoulder width and take an extreme open stance(front foot is behind the back foot), I like to visualize my belt buckle pointing directly at the flag stick.
-
Step 3
Open the face of your club so that if layed down all points of club would be in contact with the ground.(do not ground your club in the sand. In most organized play this will incur a two stroke penalty)
-
Step 4
Your take away should be straight up behind , do not push club back along sand. the distance of the back swing is in direct proportion to the distance to the flag stick. Once you reach you high point of swing, transfer all momentum into the downswing, your club should contact the sand about 1" behind the ball, this is for a shallow lie, if your ball is buried deep in sand then you would want to hit back a little farther and excelerate the swing slightly. a high follow through is a must. with a little practice this will take strokes off your game.
