Buy Maternity Swimwear That Makes You Feel Good

Maternity swimwear has come a long way in the last few years. There are many stylish bathing suits to choose from when you're pregnant and they don't have to cost a fortune. What maternity bathing suit you pick may depend on how far along you are and how comfortable you are exposing that baby bump. Read on for tips on finding the perfect maternity swimwear to make you look good and feel great!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before you go out and buy any maternity swimwear check your drawers, you probably already have one bathing suit that will fit. The bikini is perfect for expectant mothers who are proud to expose their bare belly. You may want to try the top on to make sure it still fits since your breasts have likely grown along with your belly. If you're looking for a cheap maternity bathing suit this is the best choice, although probably not the most supportive!

  2. Step 2

The tankini is by far the most popular type of maternity swimwear. It's a good choice because the top can grow with your expanding belly, without fully exposing it. Many expectant mothers feel most comfortable in this type of maternity swimsuit because it isn't as restrictive as a one piece, but it's more modest than a bikini. If you have the chance to try on the bathing suit look for one that has a lot of stretch and make sure the top is long enough that it will cover your belly even in the 8th and 9th months of pregnancy.

  3. Step 3
    Strings offer little support.

    Strings offer little support.

If you opt for either type of two piece maternity swimwear there are a few things to consider when picking out your swimsuit. Look for a bikini or tankini top with thick, supportive and adjustable straps. Strings won't support anything especially your growing chest. As the pregnancy months go by you may need to let the straps out to accommodate your breasts and belly. Strapless may be the cutest but it's not likely to give you the support you need.

  4. Step 4

As far as the bottom of a two piece, look for maternity bathing suits that have a wide, supportive waistband to help support the weight of the baby. The bottom may not be the cut you would wear when you're not pregnant, but remember your body is swelling in different places and you need the extra support. You may want to even consider boy shorts or a skirted bottom to give you a little more coverage. A two piece maternity swimsuit is also ideal for the countless runs to the bathroom because it eliminates having to take the entire bathing suit off.

  5. Step 5

One piece maternity swimwear is the most difficult to find. It's more restrictive than the other two types of maternity swimsuits, but has it's benefits. A one piece, when you're pregnant, is ideal if you are swimming for exercise or if you like the feeling of being fully supported.
