Things You'll Need:
- (4) 8' 4x4 treated
- (2) 48" pallets
- 4 x 8 Tarp
- (1) 8' 2x4 treated
-
Step 1
wood left in snowFirst you need to level off an area 5'x 10' at the location you want to store your firewood. Since you either have done alot of work or paid alot of money to obtain this wood you really want to keep it dry. After the ground is leveled lay down some landscape fabric to cover this area. this will prevent weed growth and keep varmints out.
-
Step 2
Next, lay down your two 48" pallets which will cover a 4 x 8 foot area. then at the four corners dig a hole 18" to 24" deep and set your 4"x4" posts you can use a quickrete product to secure into holes , but it is not necessary. Caution if you use concrete, please follow instructions carefully.
-
Step 3
After posts are set in holes backfill dirt and some gravel (if available)into each hole around the post and tamp securely. Attach the 2x4 to the back side of this structure for stability. after completing these steps you can start to stack your wood into this storage area on top of the pallets. pallets are great for this because they allow air flow under you wood pile, which is essential in keeping wood dry and seasoned for burning.
-
Step 4
Next stretch you tarp over the top of your posts and attach at one end, most tarps have the eyelets at each corner, I use nails and bend them over, that way i can easily undo If i need to remove tarp. leave the other end of the tarp free to be flopped over the wood as access is needed. you never want to wrap your wood tight from the weather it needs airflow to keep dry and seasoned. keeping it off the ground and keeping the rain off with a tarp is the best way to store your firewood.Ck out my resources below for covers and carriers at low prics
