How to Avoid Job Scams on Craigslist
Craigslist is a great resource if you are looking for a job. There are many employment opportunity postings on this site. There are also many scams in the jobs section. Always use caution when you are contacting someone you don't know and never give out your personal information to a stranger.

1
Check the salary of the job. If the money offered is good to be true, it probably is. If the job says something to the effect of "Make $$$ By Doing Nothing," it's a scam. Don't fall for "get rich quick" schemes.
-
2
Look for the specifics about the job. If the posting is vague in regards to its location or duties, it may be a scam. Real job postings will provide detailed information that indicates where the job is, what it entails and how to contact the company.

Don't fill out any forms. If a job listing asks you to respond to an email and instantly sends you a link to a website with a form, it is probably a fake. Forms that ask for your cell phone number and provider are most certainly a scam and should not be filled out.

Do some research. If the job is a scam, there will likely be several posts indicating this on the Internet. Contact the Better Business Bureau as well. The Bureau will be able to tell you if anyone has been scammed by the company that posted the job.

Tips & Warnings
Don't give up your search! There are still opportunities for you!
Careful of anyone who asks for your SSN. Never give this information over the internet to an unknown party, or over an unsecured connection (check for the lock at the bottom of your screen).
Don't give out your cell phone provider in a form for a job posting. It is likely a scam that could end up costing you in phone messaging fees!
