How to Stop Telemarketing Calls Forever

Irritating telemarketing calls don't have to be a problem.

Thanks to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became effective in February 2008, all phone numbers added to the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on the list forever. This registry helps fend off unwanted calls from telemarketers. If a telemarketer gets through, you can file a complaint with the registry. You can add your cell or home phone number to this registry; business and fax numbers cannot be added.

Instructions

1. Navigate your Web browser to the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov.

2. Click the "Register Now" button.

3. Enter up to three phone numbers -- with or without a dash -- that you want to block from receiving telemarketing calls. Provide your email address to receive confirmation from the registry and to verify your registration. Click "Submit."

4. Check your email and click the verification link in your email within 72 hours to complete your registration.

Tips & Warnings

• Once a phone number is registered on the National Do Not Call Registry, telemarketers have 31 days before they must stop calling that number. If you still receive calls from telemarketers after 31 days of registering, get that telemarketer's company name or phone number or, better yet, both, and file a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry website.
