So you have a hole in the sleeve of your favorite shirt. You're not going to throw that shirt away because it's your favorite, and you know a patch will cover that hole nicely. What you should do is save your shirt and your money, create a patch and sew it on the sleeve to cover up that hole. Sounds like a good idea, right?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors Swatch of fabric (synthetic suede is a good choice) Thread to match the fabric Needle Straight pins
  1. Step 1

Position the swatch of fabric over the hole in your sleeve and pin in place.

  2. Step 2

Thread needle and make a knot at the end of the thread.

  3. Step 3

On wrong side of shirtsleeve, push needle and thread through the fabric, up and through the edge of the patch.

  4. Step 4

Insert needle next to stitch made, going down through the shirtsleeve and coming up through the edge of the patch again. (Stitches should be as close together as possible.) Pull the thread up until you can't pull the thread any more.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Step 4 until you've sewn around the edge of the patch completely.

  6. Step 6

End your last stitch by putting your needle through the loop of thread in your stitch, before pulling the needle and thread to the thread's end. Once through the loop, pull the thread tightly to make a knot.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat step 6.

  8. Step 8

Cut thread close to the fabric.

  9. Step 9

    Remove straight pins from patch.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can't find synthetic suede, use a medium-weight fabric that doesn't fray easily.
