If you want to make pretty guest soaps, or decorator soaps for your home it is very simple to shave bar soap for use in soap molds. You don't need to use a full bar or soap, as partials work just as well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bar soap Sandwich bags Cheese grater Mixing bowl
  1. Step 1

Collect all the soaps you will be shaving. Keep the different types of soaps, such as antibacterial or moisturizing, separated.

  2. Step 2

Lay the cheese grater across the top of the mixing bowl and anchor it with one hand.

  3. Step 3

Shave the soap across the grater with your other hand, watching out for your knuckles. You don't want any skin in your soap shavings.

  4. Step 4

Place shaved soap into sandwich bags to be stored until you are ready to make molded soap. You can label the bags with the type of soap inside.

  5. Step 5

If you are doing separate batches, you should rinse off the grater and bowl before starting the next batch.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you get ready to make the molds, you can add coloring and scents to make the molded soap more uniform.
