How to Connect an LCD TV to a VCR

Use composite cables to connect a VCR to an LCD TV.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) television comes with several different types of jacks for connecting audio-video components, including a videocassette recorder (VCR). Hooking up a VCR requires two sets of composite AV cables to send a signal for recording to the VCR and for playback from the VCR back to the LCD TV. The cables are color-coded yellow, white and red for simplified connections that should take only a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

• 2 sets of composite cables

Instructions

1. Insert the yellow, red and white plugs on the end of a composite cable set into the matching color AV OUT jacks on the back of the TV.

2. Connect the other ends to the AV IN jacks on the VCR. This connection sends a signal to the VCR for recording TV programming.

3. Plug a second set of composite cables into the AV IN jacks on the back of the TV, then connect the other ends to the AV OUT or Playback jacks on the VCR. This connection sends the signal from a recorded videotape to the TV for viewing.

Tips & Warnings

• Tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 to watch videos played on the VCR.

• Unplug the TV and the VCR from the power while hooking up the composite cables.
