How to Remove Carpet Padding Glue

- Heat gun Metal spatula Plastic spatula Towels Adhesive remover Gloves Exhaust fan Mop Warm water Bucket Floor cleaner

Scrape the majority of the old carpet padding glue with a metal spatula. Heat the metal spatula with a heat gun and work in one square foot sections. Wipe the spatula with a towel and repeat.

Put on protective gloves. Ventilate your work space by opening all windows and running an exhaust fan. Turn off your gas furnace and gas water heater.

Soak a towel with adhesive remover. Apply the remover with towel and allow it to penetrate the glue for 5 minutes.

Take your plastic spatula and scrape the softened glue. Work in small sections until the glue has been removed.

Take a fresh towel and apply adhesive remover. Wipe up glue remnants that the initial application of adhesive remover did not clear.

Wash floor with mop and floor cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
It is best to remove carpet padding glue in the summer months when you can properly ventilate your home. If removing glue from hardwood, now might be the right time to refinish your hardwood floors.
Make sure all gas is turned off in your house before using chemical solvents.
