1
Place the nebulizer on a level surface that is clear of debris and allows adequate air flow. On the left side of the machine, when facing the handle, is a compartment that opens. Find the lip on the edge of this compartment, then pull it out slightly while lifting so it releases and opens. Remove the tubing and the two mouthpiece parts.
-
2
Pull out the cord and plug in the nebulizer. (The cord is stored at the rear corner, near the handle.)
-
-
3
Hook up the nebulizer tube. Locate the compressor air outlet, a small metal tube sticking out of a ledge inside the compartment to the right, toward the center of the device. Push the tubing over the air outlet tube, using a screwing action, until the hose is securely attached. Attach the other end to a tube on the underside of the nebulizer handle, which screws on to the nebulizer mouthpiece. Turn the machine on by pressing the switch under the air outlet hose (in the compartment). Run the machine a while to warm it up.
-
4
Turn off the machine. Using the dropper that came with the medication, drip the prescribed amount into the handle. From this point on, the handle needs to remain upright. Attach the mouthpiece.
-
5
Turn on the machine and place the mouthpiece between your teeth. Close your lips around the mouthpiece. With the machine on, begin to take deep, slow breaths. Hold each breath for ten seconds at a time so that the medicine has time to settle in your lungs before you slowly exhale through the mouthpiece. Treatment time is between 7 and 9 minutes, although this time may vary according to physician recommendations.
-
6
Examine all machine parts each time and clean daily with hot water and detergent. Rinse the hose and mouthpiece in hot water, then put the parts into a bowl of white vinegar for 30 minutes. Make sure that air bubbles do not prevent contact with the cleaning solution and all parts are cleaned inside and out . Rinse again in hot water and allow to dry.
