Things You'll Need:
- Acrylic paints Assorted brushes Pencil and eraser Ruler or measuring tape Lettering templates (if desired) Reference books Sheets of white copy paper
-
Step 1
Choose acrylic paint colors that will complement the child's room decor and accessories. Draw general plans on sheets of white copy paper. Estimate the size and placement of the letters and note the colors each will be painted. Consider embellishments next to, or on, each letter, such as a picture of an apple next to the letter "A."
-
Step 2
Lettering templates can help with letter styles and sizes. Otherwise, free-style lettering can be outlined on a child's wall using a pencil and ruler or measuring tape. Erase any errors. Try a few letters together to make a word such as "CAT" or "BALL" with simple illustrations of a cat and a ball next to each word. Focus on basic designs and primary colors, which can be lightened as the project progresses. More details can be added later.
-
Step 3
Work on one wall at a time, keep the lettering about 12 inches high and fill in with solid colors as desired. Leave room between letters or words to return and add more colors, images or other enhancements. Set a time frame to complete the room project or at least one wall. This can be a weekend project or extended over a few weeks or a month.
