Diabetic dogs shouldn't eat treats formulated for other dogs, but there aren't any treats offered by retailers specifically made for your diabetic pet. It's very difficult to find treats which won't harm these dogs. But by making your own dog bones, you can offer healthy, tasty treats to your canine pal without losing control of the diabetic diet. There are no sweeteners of any kind in these treats, but the pooch will love them anyway. Make them quickly and easily using ingredients readily available at grocery stores. Even pets that are not diabetic will love these.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour 2 eggs 1 ½ pounds of beef liver Blender or food processor Aluminum foil 10-inch by 15-inch baking pan Dog bone cookie cutter
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line the baking pan with foil.

  2. Step 2

Cut the liver into pieces and pulse it in a blender or food processor until it's chopped up finely.

  3. Step 3

Whisk the eggs in a large mixing bowl. Stir the flour into the eggs, blending well. Stir the chopped liver into the flour and egg mixture. Blend it very well.

  4. Step 4

Spread the mixture into the foil-lined pan and bake it for about 15 minutes, or until the center becomes firm.

  5. Step 5

Remove the pan from the oven and cool it on racks. Use a dog bone cookie cutter to cut the treats out, or just cut them into squares. When you've cut out as many dog bones as you can, break the remaining material into smaller tidbits for your pet. The treats will have a spongy consistency, and can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to four or five days.
