How to Make Free Awesome Flyers

Hands down, fliers are still one of the best ways to get the word out about an event, a job, a service or a lost pet. Creating an awesome flier does not require a professional designer. With a little time and experimentation, anyone can make an awesome flier for free.

Instructions

1. Gather information for your flier. If your flier is for a specific event, double-check the date and time. Make sure you have contact information, either in the form of a telephone number of the venue, a personal contact number (but remember, this number is going to be posted around town), a website or an email address. Provide an address as well as a cross street. Make sure all names and places are spelled correctly. You may also opt to include an admission price.

2. Brainstorm to come up with a logo or an illustration. An awesome flier has to have some visual pop to catch the eye of passers-by. Someone with drawing skills can create a freehand illustration to add personality to the flier. Even hand-drawn letters stand out in this age of fonts and clip art. You can also rock an awesome flier using easy-to-read fonts (avoid serifs and flourishes) and a bold image from a clip-art book or website. Look for sharp, clear images that communicate your message from a distance.

3. Draw, write or type the content of the flier. Create elements in a couple of sizes or styles so that you can visualize the results before making a decision. If the overall look is not gelling, take a walk by a local bulletin board or telephone pole and check out the fliers that draw your attention first.

4. Do a layout of the flier's various elements. Play around with the order and placement of phrases. Move the image or logo around to different sections of the flier. Typically, the visual part of the design is centered on the page or placed slightly above the midpoint. Along the bottom edge of the flier, you may opt to repeat a key message or you can create a line of tear-off tags with the basic information and a contact number.

5. Create multiples of the original flier. The quickest and cheapest approach is to work only in black-and-white rather than color copies. If you do not have access to a free photocopier, ask around for donations. A business may be willing to cover the cost of 100 fliers if you put its logo on some publicity material.
