When cooking on a glass or ceramic stove top, spills and splatters can make a mess of the cooking surface. However, regular quick cleaning and some simple maintenance will keep your stove top shining in between cooking sessions. Here are some steps you can take to clean your smooth top stove surface.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass cook top cleaner
  • Sponge
  • Razor blade
  • Lint-free towel
  • Dish soap
  • Hot water
  1. Step 1

Keep spills wiped up during the cooking process. Use paper towels to wipe up any water or liquids that may boil over. This will prevent any unnecessary cooked-on residue.

  2. Step 2

Allow the cook top and all burners to cool completely before cleaning the entire surface. This will keep your fingers safe from burns, and prevent any unforeseen damage to the surface.

  3. Step 3

Clean the entire surface with dish soap and hot water, using a sponge. If you've had a spill that has adhered to the burner surface, wipe up as much as you can. Dry the surface with a lint-free towel.

  4. Step 4

Remove and hardened residue from burners with a razor blade. Very gently scrape away the residue without applying force or pressure, to avoid scratching the burner and surface. Once you've removed the burnt-on residue, wipe down the surface with hot soapy water again, and dry with a lint-free towel.

  5. Step 5

Clean the entire surface with a specifically-formulated glass cook top cleaner. Different brands may have different application methods, but typically all you need to do is spread a thin layer of the cleaner over the cooking surface. Use a paper towel or a dry cloth to wipe the cleaner over the surface. Don't rub it in or wipe it off immediately. Allow it to dry.

  6. Step 6

Wipe the cleaner off with paper towels or a dry cloth. The surface will look dull. Now take more paper towel and start to polish the surface. Use circular motions and continue to wipe down until the surface once again shines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Glass/ceramic stove top cleaners can be found at the grocery store in the cleaning products aisle. You can also purchase these cleansers at appliance stores. Cleaning the surface after each use will make it easier to maintain a "brand new" appearance, and only takes a few moments.
  • Don't use sponges with scouring or abrasive materials, as this may damage the surface. Don't drag pots and pans across the surface when cooking.
