How to Make Business Cards on Windows Vista

Business cards are a must-have for the entrepreneur, small-business owner and freelancer. Today's home printers offer great quality printing, often good enough to print your own business cards at home. So if you're looking to spread the word about your business or services, you may be looking for ways to create your business cards. If you have Windows Vista, there are a few options for doing this, but many involve having expensive software such as Microsoft Office or Adobe InDesign already installed. If you don't have any of these, you can use this method, which involves a free software download that is designed to work in Vista.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase blank business cards. If they are not Avery, make sure they have an "Avery compatible" number on them.

    • 2

Go to Avery.com. Go to the "Templates & Software" section on the navigation bar and click "Software" on the drop-down menu. Choose "Avery DesignPro for PC" and download it. Follow the instructions on the set-up wizard to install the program to your computer (see Resources below).

    • 3

Open the DesignPro program. A window will offer a choice of methods for creating projects. Choose "Step-by-Step Wizard."

    • 4

Follow the wizard's instructions, choosing the product number of the cards you've purchased when asked to select your product.

    • 5

Continue to follow the wizard, selecting the template you'd like to personalize and entering your information in the locations provided.

    • 6

Click "Finish" when all of your information has been entered. A preview of a full sheet of business cards will appear. You can now choose to "Save," "Preview and Print" or exit the wizard and edit each card in DesignPro.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print your finished sheet of cards on a blank piece of paper first, then place it on top of the blank sheet of business cards and hold it up to the light to ensure all of the cards are centered correctly.

  • For print-at-home business cards, it's best to leave the background white. Home printers may have difficulty printing a full-colored background evenly, and it will use a lot of ink.
