How to Make Construction Paper Flowers

Construction paper flowers are easy to make, and perfect for a variety of craft projects. They also make great gifts for children to make for Mother's day, Easter or anytime a friend or family member needs cheering up. You can draw your own paper petals to make the construction paper flowers any size and shape you want, or you can download, print and cut out the free paper flower patterns and templates linked below.

Things You'll Need

• Colored construction paper
• Green construction paper
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Glue
• Tape

Instructions

1. Make a daisy by drawing 12 narrow, oval-shaped petals on white or colored construction paper, or by tracing the daisy petal pattern linked below. Cut out the petals. Cut a small circle from yellow construction paper, and glue one end of each petal to the back of the circle, forming a daisy shape.

2. Make a daffodil by drawing 5 large, pointed petals on yellow construction paper, or by tracing the daffodil petal pattern linked below. Cut out the petals and glue the ends together, forming a star shape. Cut a rectangle of orange construction paper, about 1 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches long. Cut small slits in one long edge of the paper, giving it a fringed look. Overlap the narrow ends of the orange paper, and tape or glue them together. Tape or glue the orange cup to the center of the daffodil petals.

3. Make a sunflower by drawing 20 narrow, pointed petals (or tracing the daffodil petal pattern) on yellow paper. Cut out the petals. Cut a large circle from brown construction paper for the center of the sunflower. Glue the ends of the petals around the edges of the circle.

4. Make a poppy by drawing 6 short, wide petals with ruffled edges (or by tracing the poppy petal pattern) on brightly colored paper, such as red, pink or orange. Cut out the petals and arrange them in a circle with the ruffled edges facing out and the sides overlapping slightly. Glue the petals together. Cut a circle from black or brown construction paper, and glue it to the center of the poppy.

5. Make stems for the paper flowers by cutting a strip of green construction paper 3 inches wide and the length you want the stem. Roll the green paper around a pencil, and put tape along the edge of the paper. Remove the pencil and tape the end of the stem to the back of the paper flower.

Tips & Warnings

• You can use a variety of paper flowers to make a bouquet or arrangement. Tie the stems of the flowers together with ribbon, or place them in a glass jar for a vase.

• Supervise children carefully when working with scissors, and choose age appropriate crafts.
