Click the "Start" button in your menu bar and look for Control Panel.

Look for your "Display" icon and click on it.

Click the "Settings" tab in the Display Properties menu.

Note the adjustment bar that is labeled "Screen Resolutions." This is the little bar is where you can adjust your screen resolutions to make the appearance bigger or smaller on your desktop screen. If you move the adjustments to the left, it will make images appear larger. If you move the level to the right, it will make images appear smaller. Once you've made your choice, hit "Apply" and your screen will go black for a few seconds to make the adjustments. A window will then appear asking if you want to keep the settings, and if they're where you want them, click "Yes."

on 5/14/2009 Keep in mind that if you have an LCD monitor it really should be run at its native resolution or things won't look quite right. If the text on the screen is too small then you should try increasing the font size instead.
