How to Make Math Bingo Cards

What better way to make math fun than with a little bingo? Bingo is a favorite with the young and old alike and is a learning tool children can use to improve math skills ranging from recognizing Roman numerals to calculating algebraic equations. Since there are a wide variety of skills and levels bingo can teach and reinforce, you may need to make your own cards. Luckily, making cards is easy. You can create your own blank cards or print them from the web.

Instructions

To create your own blank card, open a text document in any word processing program. Click "Table" at the top of the screen and insert a table that has six rows and five columns. Using your Enter key, make the boxes as large as you want. Type the letters B-I-N-G-O in each square in the top row; in the middle box, type the words "free space." Fill in the rest of the boxes any way you want, and print as many copies as you need.

You can also download a bingo card program. Several websites offer programs that can be downloaded to make a bingo game in several steps, including call-out sheets. Once you download the program, you list about 40 things to be mixed around on the different bingo cards (e.g., 4+2, 2+3, 0+1). The program will make the number of bingo cards you desire. There is usually a fee associated with these programs, but some offer a free trial period.

You can also use an online bingo program. Usually, free web-based bingo programs allow users to print predesigned cards and custom-made cards. However, sometimes it is difficult to navigate around the website to find exactly what you need. One such web-based bingo program is Perceptus' Bingo Card Generator. Once there, click on "custom bingo cards with your own word or phrase list" and then click "blank bingo cards." From there, you can set your different print and text sizes and then under "word list" type in what you want to appear in your boxes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to cancel any free trial you download if you don't intend to pay for the service.

  • Carefully check any website as you normally would before downloading anything and giving out your credit card number.
