Instructions

    • 1

Use a cut lime to moisten the edge of the glass. Rotate the glass in salt to rim the edge. This step can be skipped if you don't have rimming salt.

    • 2

Blend together 3 ounces of Tequila, 1 ounce of orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau), 1 ounce of lime juice, and 3 cups of ice. The mixture should be slushy, with no chunks of ice. This recipe is enough for one large or two regular-sized glasses.

    • 3

Consider adding fruit juice to the recipe for a twist on the original. Raspberry, strawberry, and peach are the most common juices added and should be used instead of the lime juice or, more commonly, in a 50-50 mixture with the lime juice.

    • 4

Pour the mixture into the glass, taking care not to get the margarita on the edge so as to not ruin the rimming work.

    • 5

Cut a lime into wedges and use one slice to garnish the edge of your blended margarita glass.

Tips & Warnings

  • The prickly pear margarita is one of the most popular flavors of blended margaritas. To make it, add two ounces of sour mix and a dash of grenadine, and use 5 ounces of prickly pear tequila instead of the 3 ounces of regular tequila. Many tequila experts agree that salt rimming first was used to cover the taste of inferior tequila, so you may want to forgo the rimming or use sugar instead. The most common margarita ratio is 2:1:1 (half tequila, one-quarter Triple Sec, and one-quarter lime juice). However, some people like to use a 3:2:1 or 1:1:1 ratio.

  • Never drink alcohol before driving. Ask your doctor for drinking advice if you are taking any medications, as they may interact adversely. Drink one glass of water for ever mixed drink you enjoy, and always drink when you have food in your stomach.
