Stepping into a hot steamy jacuzzi tub is a luxury most people could only enjoy at a spa just a few years ago. Now, with the availability and affordability of beautiful lightweight acrylic-coated fiberglass jacuzzi tubs, homeowners can have them installed quite simply into their personal bathrooms. If you have the space, it can be installed, but don't forget that someone will have to clean it. Here are a few guidelines to keep the job simple and your jacuzzi tub sparkling and ready for your next soak. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Acrylic cleaner
- Microfiber rag
- Shampoo
- Dishwasher detergent
- Bleach
- Toothbrush
Instructions

Tub, Faucets and Surround
-
1
Wipe down the surface with a damp rag immediately after using the jacuzzi tub. Pay special attention to the water line and around the jet ports. If you use any oils in the tub you will need to apply a cleaner, such as Lysol Bathroom Cleaner. Follow the specific instructions on the labeling. Rinse and dry.
-
2
Wash the faucets with a damp rag and a little shampoo, but do not use the acrylic cleaner unless the product labeling specifically says that it is safe to use on metal surfaces. Use a toothbrush once a month or so to clean out the drain and the edge around it. Rinse and wipe dry so water spots don't build up.

3
Clean the outside of the tub with a damp microfiber cloth. It should not be too dirty unless the tub is heavily used. Wipe down any edges where dust and water can collect, rinsing the rag often so you are not spreading dust and hair everywhere.
Whirlpool Jets
-
4
Flush and sanitize the whirlpool jets about twice a month by filling the tub with water to 2 inches over the jets or better yet, save the water from the last use (as long as no oils or salts were used). Add 2 tsp. of dishwasher detergent and 20 oz. of bleach.
-
5
Turn off the air openings by turning them clockwise until the opening if closed. This will allow the maximum amount of water to flow through the plumbing under the tub and through the jets.
-
6
Switch on the jacuzzi motor to the highest setting and let it run for 5 to 10 minutes. (It must run for at least 5 minutes, but no more than 10 minutes.) This will work the cleaning fluids through the system and clean out any pockets where buildups or mildew might occur.
-
7
Stop the motor by flipping the switch. Allow the tub to drain completely. If there was scum that formed in the process of flushing the jets, rinse the tub out with a little warm water. Otherwise, there is no need to rinse as the bleach will dissipate and the dishwasher detergent was sufficiently diluted to be safe for your next bath.
