How to Dissolve Gorilla Glue

Gorilla Glue is an industrial-strength glue renowned for its ability to provide an exceptional hold. This is great news for a number of difficult repair jobs but can cause problems when it comes to cleaning up an unintentional mess. Here are the steps for dissolving that Gorilla Glue.

  • Denatured alcohol

    • 1

      Take action immediately. Once Gorilla Glue has completely hardened, no substance will be able to dissolve it.

      Use paper towels or newspaper to remove as much of the drying Gorilla Glue as possible.

      Soak the glue in denatured alcohol overnight. Be sure that the alcohol will not damage or stain the item surrounding the glue. If you don't have denatured alcohol, you can use acetone (found in nail polish remover) or a glue debonder, though the results may not be as effective.

      Use a chisel to remove the glue without harming the floor, product or glass that the glue has hardened on.

      If the denatured alcohol fails to dissolve the Gorilla Glue, then it is likely impossible to dissolve the glue. In such cases, scraping, sanding and/or cutting is recommended.
