How to Treat a Blood-Engorged Tick on a Dog
Finding a blood-engorged tick on your dog can be a gross discovery, but it is something that any dog owner can handle on their own. Ticks can be removed at home with the use of tweezers.
If you find a tick on your dog, be sure to do a thorough search for more of the little pests. Ticks prefer warm locations, so check your dog's underside, giving attention to any creases in the neck or where the leg meets the torso. Check yourself, too, if you were playing with your dog where he picked up the tick.

Understand that removing a tick can be painful. If your dog is sensitive to pain or difficult to handle, ask a friend or family member that the dog trusts to hold his head. You don't want your dog to unintentionally lash out and bite you in fear.

2
Use one hand to hold back the fur from the tick. Press down on the skin around the tick to prevent excessive tugging on the skin.

3
Use the tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the head as possible. Gently, but firmly, pull the tick out of the dog's skin. Check the tick to make sure you got the whole bug.
