MP3s are electronic music files which you can play on a computer or an MP3 player like an iPod. You can also use them to build your own music mixes, and burn them onto a blank CD. A number of different software packages can accomplish the task, but Apple's iTunes program ranks among the most popular and reliable. Not only does it work for Macintoshes and PCs alike, but it can be downloaded for free on Apple's homepage. iTunes is designed for simple operation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with CD burner
  • iTunes software
  • MP3s
  • Blank CD
  1. Step 1

Compile a folder full of MPs that you want to put on your CD. You can do this by clicking on the song and dragging it to the file. iTunes allows you to do this by clicking "New Playlist" in the File menu and then pulling the songs from your music library into the playlist. It will copy the songs, not transfer them, which means they will still be in your library even after you have pulled them into your new playlist.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the songs in whatever order you wish, and check to make sure they can all fit on one CD. Each minute of music will take up about 10 MB worth of space on the CD. The size of the MP3 files will usually be much smaller, even though their running time is about the same. Most recordable CDs will hold about 75 minutes worth of music. ITunes will provide a prompter in case you try to burn too many songs onto one CD.

  3. Step 3

Insert a blank CD into your drive. The menu will ask you to name the CD and to tell it what kind of information you want to store on it. Select "Audio CD" or "Open iTunes" if you are using iTunes.

  4. Step 4

Drag the MP3s you have selected over to the window of the blank CD. When using iTunes, simply click on the playlist you have created and then click the "Burn Disc" button in the lower right hand corner of the iTunes visualizer.

  5. Step 5

Select "Extract To" or "Burn To" the blank CD you have inserted if you aren't using iTunes. Double check to make sure the songs are burning.

  6. Step 6

Wait. Most contemporary CD burners will complete the CD in just a few minutes, but it may take a little longer depending on the computer you have. Your computer should signal when it is done.

Tips & Warnings
  • In order to burn CDs from MP3s, you'll need to have a computer that can burn CDs. Most modern computers feature this function, but if you have an older computer, you may need to borrow a friends or purchase a CD burner which you can connect to your machine. It's usually a good idea to double check the MP3s you are preparing to burn just to make sure they are in the play order you want.
