The days of unnatural looking wigs are gone. Today's wigs can match your hair color and look natural for little expense. Paula Young Wigs has been in business for over 30 years. They are world leaders in wigs and hairpieces. Their wigs are as low as $36 and include short, medium and long styles. Hair choices include synthetic and human hair. Wearing a Paula Young wig takes little time to put on--and style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wide tooth or pick comb for curly hair
  • Wire brush for straight hair
  • Wig stand
  • Wig liner or bobby pins
  • Paula Young wig
  1. Step 1

Measure your head. Before purchasing a Paula Young wig, you need to measure your head for a proper fit. Use a cloth tape and begin by measuring the natural hairline; follow the tape just above the ears and around the bend in your neck and back to the front. Measure from front to back. Place the tape at the hairline and measure to the top of the neck. Measure from ear to ear. Place the tape in front of the ear and at the hairline; move over the crown to the other ear. Paula Young provides a chart with measurements for petite to large. If the measurements do not all match the chart, choose the size that matches the largest measurement.

  2. Step 2

Choose a wig style. If your hair is fine, choose a lightweight wig. If you wear glasses, look for wigs with open ear tabs. If you have a short neck, look for wigs that do not have an extended hairline. If you have sensitive skin, look for the wigs with a velvet trim. If you want a wig close to your own hair color, choose a wig that is slightly lighter than your hair. All the wigs have up to eight colors blended to make one color.

  3. Step 3

Prepare the wig and your hair. When your wig arrives, take off the hair net and give the wig a good shaking. All the wigs are pre-styled. Pull your own hair back and secure it with bobby pins. Pin it at the sides and at the nape. Some people prefer to use a wig liner.

  4. Step 4

Put on the wig. Hold the wig on both sides with the label facing the back. Place the wig at the natural hairline. Put the wig on from front to back. Adjust the wig so the front is just below the hairline. Adjust the wig with the ear tabs. Tuck in any stray hairs.

  5. Step 5

Style the wig. Use either the wide tooth-comb for curly hair or the wire brush for straight hair. Don't try to make every strand stay in place. Allow for a little natural placement, so the wig doesn't look like a wig. Use short lifting strokes for curly hair. For long, straight styles, brush the strands. For a quick and less styled look, simply shake the wig and put it on. When you take off the wig, store it on a wig stand to maintain its shape.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider buying more than one wig, so when one is shampooed, the other is ready. Store your wig away from heat, dust and moisture.
