The next time your soap dish gets a crack or starts looking too old, considering making your own. Make your own soap dish that matches the theme in your bathroom. You can make your soap dish look like a seashell or a heart on Valentine's Day. You can even make more than one soap dish so that you have one to use for each season.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White modeling clay
  • Roller
  • Wax paper
  • Paints
  • Paintbrush
  • Water
  • Acrylic waterproof sealer
  • Sharp knife
  • Newspaper
  1. Step 1

Soften the clay by working it in your hands.

  2. Step 2

Place the clay on a sheet of wax paper. Cover the clay with another sheet of wax paper.

  3. Step 3

Roll your roller over the wax paper with the clay underneath it. Do this until the clay is smooth on both sides. Take the top layer of the wax paper off.

  4. Step 4

Cut your design out of the clay with a knife. If you have a cookie cutter of your design, you can use that. For a traditional soap dish, just cut out a rectangle slightly larger than a bar of soap.

  5. Step 5

Make an indent in the middle of your design with your finger. Make sure it is large enough for the bar of soap to fit. Start in the middle, then work your way outward until you get it big enough.

  6. Step 6

Set the soap dish on a sheet of newspaper until it hardens all the way. This can take a few hours.

  7. Step 7

Paint the soap dish and then allow it time to dry. You may need two coats. Don't apply the second coat until the first coat is dry.

  8. Step 8

Finish off the soap dish with Acrylic waterproof sealer. Without it, your paint will quickly deteriorate, leaving your soap dish looking unattractive. Apply two coats of the Acrylic waterproof sealer. Allow to dry before using.
