Things You'll Need:
- Petroleum jelly
-
Step 1
Under the TubLook under the tub and you will see there are several cut-off valves in your water path. There is usually one before the pump, one after the pump, and one on either side of the filter. There is also a water faucet in-line after the pump but before the filter.
-
Step 2
Turn off the pumps and blower.
-
Step 3
Cut off ValvesClose the valves on either side of the filter.
-
Step 4
Filter UnitRemove the filter unit from the tub. If your filter looks like the one in the picture, you must loosen and remove the bottom part. The filter is inside the bottom part.
-
Step 5
Place the filter in a bucket of clean water, and gently scrub it with a soft brush to remove the dirt and debris. When it is clean, put it back into the filter unit. If you have an additional filter (it's always a good idea to have two) then place this one into the filter unit while the other one is being cleaned.
-
Step 6
Place a small bit of petroleum jelly around the gasket of the filter unit.
-
Step 7
External FilterReplace the filter unit and make sure it is tightened.
-
Step 8
Open the valves that you previously closed and you are done.
