White Berber carpet is extremely difficult to clean. This is especially true with harsh chemicals such as automobile grease. This type of carpet is a woven fabric. It has a yarn-like texture, which holds water if it soaks in. This material also is prone to marking if furniture or even feet slide across the Berber carpet. To clean automobile grease or any other chemical that may spill out of a white Berber carpet takes special instructions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pan
  • Cloth
  • Degreaser dish soap
  • Peroxide
  1. Step 1

Fill the pan with hot water. Dip your cloth into the pan. Wring it out so that the cloth is only somewhat damp. Blot the stain in a row. Never rub or go back and forth on the automobile grease. Wring your cloth out again. Repeat this step once.

  2. Step 2

Use a dime-size amount of dish soap on the cloth. Blot the grease spot with the soapy side of the cloth. Again, dab in a row and do not rub. Rinse the rag out thoroughly. Blot the spot without soap. This will bring out the grease and leftover dish washing soap.

  3. Step 3

Wring out the cloth. Pour a drop of peroxide onto the rag. Dab the cloth onto automobile grease on the white Berber carpet. You should see the stain lifting out from the carpet. Wring the cloth out and repeat this step twice.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the rag thoroughly. Wring out the cloth and dab the clean water onto the spot. Repeat steps 1 to 4 as necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never soak the area. The Berber carpet absorbs water and it will saturate to the floorboard. Do not use bleach or other harsh abrasives to clean automobile grease out of a white Berber carpet.
