Invitations
-
1
Pick a theme for the party. Find a coloring page with the theme character or item on it.
-
2
Make a mock up invitation. Fold a piece of copy paper in quarters. Draw a quick sketch of the theme character on the front. Open and make an "x" where the invitation information will be inside. Unfold the piece so you can see how the full page looks. Experiment until you know exactly what you want the invitation to look like.

-
3
Scan the coloring page and reduce the size to fit the one quarter section of an 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of card stock. Choose the font you want and type the information for the who, what, when, where and other party news. Color in the character with pencils or markers.
-
4
Fill your printer with the number of sheets of card stock needed to make the invitations you need. Scan the invitation you have created.
-
5
Print off the invitations. Fold in quarters. Prepare for delivery.
Decorations
-
6
Choose 3 to 5 colors to go with the theme of the party.
-
7
Stencil the number of the age to be celebrated on colored construction paper. Cut several of these numbers out. You can also stencil the word for the number and make several of the words. These will be taped on the walls in the party area.
-
8
Unroll plain crepe paper and write messages on it in marker. For example, a construction party theme for a boy can have the words, "Caution," "Work Zone," or "Birthday Boy Construction Company" written on the streamers.
-
9
Stencil the words "Happy Birthday" and the child's name on lightweight cardboard. Cut the letters out and staple them to a poster board or tape around a door frame.
-
10
Take the coloring page of the theme character and copy it to a larger size. Print one for each child on card stock and hang up around the party area for a decoration. During the party these can be taken down and used for a party game if desired. Plan a treasure hunt. When they arrive at each station of the hunt they color one section of the picture. The picture must be colored in to get their goodie bag.
-
11
Copy your main character on a piece of poster board. Color or paint it for a wall decoration. You can use this for a pin-the-tail-on-the-character type game. For example, if the character wears a hat, pin the hat on the character for the game.
-
12
Drape a clean, flat bed sheet or cloth remnant on the table and use safety pins to fasten ribbon or lace hair bows on to it for a Barbie, Princess or American Girl party. A cowboy or cowgirl party tablecloth will work well with bandannas made into bows or place mats. Fasten silk leaves from your craft supplies around the cake and on to a dinosaur party table.
