How to Make Bean Bag Games for Kids

Kids love to play games. While most kids are familiar with popular board games and video games, old fashioned bean bag games still manage to provide hours of entertainment. Instructions

    • 1

Cut the fabric scraps into 5-by-5 inch squares using your rotary cutter and self-healing cutting mat. Match the squares up into pairs with the right sides of each piece of fabric facing each other then pin together.

    • 2

Sew around the border of each pair of squares using a 1/2-inch seam allowance, making sure to leave a small hole for turning the bean bags. Turn the fabric bags right side out then fill with beans or rice. Hand stitch the holes closed using a blind stitch or top stitch using your sewing machine. You can make as many beanbags as you'd like, but it's always a good idea to have at least five or six on hand.

    • 3

Use the math compass and pencil to draw four to six circles in various sizes on one side of the box. These will become the holes for the bean bag game. Make sure that the smallest circle is wide enough to accommodate the size of your bean bags.

    • 4

Use the cutting tool to cut out the holes. Do not, under any circumstances, allow children to use the cutting tool as they could injure themselves.

    • 5

Ask your children to cut out pictures from magazines to decorate the box then enlist their help in gluing the pictures onto the box. Be sure to cover the entire surface.

    • 6

Set up the box at one end of your living room or play room, then have your children take turns tossing their bean bags into the holes. Encourage them to make up wacky rules, award points for bean bags tossed into smaller holes and find creative ways to toss the bags into the holes. The sky is the limit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not, under any circumstances, allow children to use the cutting tool as they could injure themselves.
