Yahoo!'s Geocities is one of the most-widely available free Web hosting sites online today. The only requirement to start a website is to first create a free yahoo account. Yahoo! offers a basic site builder for users new to Web development as well as the ability to upload Web pages created off-line with more advanced Web development tools. Geocities also offers several plug-ins available for free use such as: a guest book, site visitor counter, the weather, Yahoo! search, a birthday countdown clock, and a number of other free site plug-ins.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yahoo! Email account
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Yahoo! website to create a Yahoo! account.

  2. Step 2

    Navigate to: http://geocities.yahoo.com/home and select the "Sign Up" menu button.

  3. Step 3

    Sign in to the geocities portal with your Yahoo! email address and password.

  4. Step 4

    Answer high level questions from Yahoo! with respect to the purpose of the site (e.g. Business, personal, non-profit use).

  5. Step 5

    Select the "Build Your Site Now" menu option.

    Choose the "Create and Build" menu selection item from the Geocities control panel.

  7. Step 7

    Select a website theme from the free options available. This will start the Yahoo! site builder wizard.

    Enter a website title and description when prompted by the site builder wizard.

    Upload a site picture or choose to use the default template image.

  10. Step 10

    Enter desired website Uniform Resource Locators (URL's).

    View the newly created website.

Tips & Warnings
  • Build Web pages off-line for upload if more complex Web designs are desired.
