Things You'll Need:
- Ethernet card
- Screwdriver, Phillips-head
- Installation disk
-
Step 1
Unplug your desktop computer and place it on its side on a flat work surface.
-
Step 2
Open your computer case. Each case is slightly different, but there should be two screws--usually large thumb screws--on the back of the case that secure the case together. Some cases are snapped together with plastic connectors.
-
Step 3
Find an open slot in your computer bay. Make sure that the open slot is of the same size as your Ethernet card. Look at the card itself to see what length slot it needs. Any slot that is the same size as the Ethernet card will work.
-
Step 4
Carefully insert the card into the open slot. Be sure to press down evenly and straight down into the slot. The Ethernet plug should appear through an opening in the back of the case after you place the card into the slot.
-
Step 5
Screw the card to secure it into the slot. This screw location is at the back of the computer, and you may have to remove a screw if there is already one in the slot's location.
-
Step 6
Close the computer case and put the screws back in the case.
-
Step 7
Start up the computer and insert the disc that came with the Ethernet card. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver for the Ethernet card.
