Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pineapple
  • Strawberries
  • Wooden skewers
  • Basket
  • Metal flower cookie cutters
  • Cantaloupe
  • Cherries
  • Seedless watermelon
  • Knife
  • Floral foam
  • Lettuce
  • Plastic wrap
  1. Step 1

Purchase the fruit. Pick fruit that is ripe but not mushy. Try to get strawberries and cherries without any blemishes. Also buy a small, pretty basket and floral foam.

  2. Step 2

Get the basket ready. Cut the floral foam to fit the inside of the basket. Wrap the foam in plastic wrap with the ends of the wrap tucked under the foam. Place the floral foam in the basket and set aside.

  3. Step 3

Prepare the fruit. Peel and slice the pineapple and then cut the seedless watermelon and cantaloupe in half. Scrape out the seeds in the cantaloupe and then cut both the watermelon and the cantaloupe into long, wide slices. Cut the cherries in half and take the leaves off the tops of the strawberries.

  4. Step 4

Make flower shapes. Set the cookie cutters on the watermelon and cantaloupe slices and push down to get the flower shapes. You may have to set the cutters on the pineapple slices and cut around the flower shapes. You can also cut the pineapple flowers by hand.

  5. Step 5

Put the flowers on the skewers. Press a pineapple flower against the sharp tip of a skewer and gently push down until the tip shows a bit. Put one of the cherry halves over the skewer tip for the center of the flower. Take a cherry half and slide it down on one of the skewers and then carefully push a watermelon or cantaloupe flower on top of the cherry half and then place another cherry half on top of the flower for a center. The cherry halves under the cantaloupe and watermelon flowers help to keep them from sliding down the skewers too far. Do the same for the rest of the pineapple, watermelon and cantaloupe flowers.

  6. Step 6

Make strawberry flowers. Stick a skewer through the top of each strawberry to make a bud. You can also stick four or five cherries on skewers.

  7. Step 7

Arrange the flowers. Put a layer of lettuce on top of the floral foam. Place the flowers where you want them. You can make as many or as little fruit flowers for your basket as you want, the choice is yours. Your basket of fruit flowers is now finished.
