Just having a cell phone is cool, but you can make it even cooler if you hook up a charm or two. Charms add a bit of personality, glitz and, well, charm, to any phone they adorn. You can make a cell phone charm with special items bought specifically for the purpose or create one out of parts of broken jewelry, buttons, small shells or cat tags or any other object that has a hole in it through which you can stick some wire.
Things You'll Need
- Beads or other small novelties
Gather your supplies. Visit a craft, jewelry supply or hardware store and get some thin but sturdy wire. You can get fancy with actual jewelry wire or pick a lighter gauge picture wire. While you're there, pick up some small beads that have holes large enough to fit through the wire but not so big they will fall through.
Decide where you want your charm. Examine your phone until you find an ideal spot for a small charm to be attached. Good choices include around any antenna, looped through parts of the cell phone holder or dangling off the any attached cords.
Ready your wire. Use your pliers to snip a piece of wire that is long enough to loop through the area where you will attach it and also long enough to hold any beads you are going to use.
Thread the objects onto the wire. Make a small knot on one end of the wire by using pliers to twist the wire into a little ball. Place your beads at the center of the wire. Make another small knot at the top of the beads, leaving enough slack to loop onto the phone.
Attach your charm to your phone by looping the wire through the part of the phone where you'd like the charm to hang. Close off loop with pliers.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure to warp the ends of the wire fully inward so they do not scratch you or get caught on anything.
- Don't drill a hole through your cell phone just to insert the wire for a charm.
