Step 1
Secure the low E string by running it over the bridge and through its tailpiece slot (the one farthest from the floor as you hold your guitar). Pull out 1 1/2 to 2 inches through the other end of the slot. Pull this section over the top of the tailpiece, and loop it around the string just behind the bridge. Wrap the string around itself several times over the tailpiece, and pull tight.

Pull the other end of the string up to the low E tuning peg at the headstock. Wrap the string over the tuner twice, and insert the string end into the peg hole. For extra security, arrange the string coils so that one sits on either side of the string hole as the string end is pulled through.

Step 3
Tighten the string, keeping the coils to the outside of the string hole. Hold the string in the correct nut slot until it becomes taught. Use an electronic tuner to bring the string to pitch.

Step 4
Repeat for each of the five remaining strings. Re-tune all six after the guitar is strung. Stretch the strings by playing several songs or performing string bends. Tune the guitar again.
