Having a wireless laptop can be very convenient, but how can you use it with a DSL connection? There is an easy to use them together.

Things You'll Need:

  • Laptop with wireless capabilities
  • DSL connection with modem
  • Wireless router
  • Two Cat5 cables
  1. Step 1

    Turn off and unplug your DSL modem and connect a Cat5 cable into the modem via the input port, normally located on the back of the modem.

  2. Step 2

    Place your wireless router wherever you would like it to remain and connect the other end of the Cat5 cable into the Internet port. This port may also be labeled "Internet" or "WLAN."

  3. Step 3

    Plug in and turn on both the DSL modem and wireless router.

  4. Step 4

    Plug the second Cat5 cable into the appropriate Internet port on your laptop, and plug the other end into your wireless router.

  5. Step 5

    Turn on your laptop and wait for it to find and recognize your new wireless router.

  6. Step 6

    The wireless connection will now show on your laptop and you will have wireless Internet access abilities, so you may unplug the Cat5 cable.
