Fix a Dripping Washing Machine Connection

Few home maintenance issues can be as problematic as a water leak. And still fewer problems can be as easily fixed as a dripping washing machine connection. Troubleshooting and repairing this should only take you a half hour to complete.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn the water off to the washing machine until you gain easy access to the faucet and drain panel. Do not disconnect the hoses from the faucets yet.

  2. Step 2

Turn the water on and inspect the leaking hose to determine where the water is leaking from, using a flashlight as necessary.

  3. Step 3

Note if the water is leaking between the hose and the faucet. If so, turn the water off, disconnect the hose, and place a hose washer into the end of the hose.

  4. Step 4

Reconnect the hose to the faucet tightly and turn the water back on. Inspect the connection for leaks.

  5. Step 5

Note if the water is leaking from the hose itself. If so, disconnect the hose from the faucet and the washing machine. Discard the old hose.

  6. Step 6

Attach a new hose to the washing machine and then to the faucet. If the hose does not have hose washers with it, add one washer per end before connecting. Turn the water back on and inspect the connections for leaks.

  7. Step 7

Inspect the threads on the faucet for damage if neither of these options fixes your leak. If the threads are damaged, replace the faucet, hoses and hose washers.
