How to Convert Music to an MP3 for iTunes

How to Convert Music to an MP3 for iTunes thumbnail
Convert your music to MP3 format in iTunes, and play the songs on your iPod.

Apple's iTunes program can import music from compact discs and encode them into a variety of different file types. Encoding a music file in the MPEG layer 3 (MP3) format has the benefit of featuring better quality and smaller file sizes compared to the WAV audio file and the audio interchange file (AIF) formats. ITunes can encode and play all of these audio files, but if you want the best quality as well as the most economical option in terms of hard drive space, then MP3 is the format to choose.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the iTunes program on your computer.

    • 2

Insert a music CD into your computer's disc tray.

    • 3

Click the "Import Settings..." button after iTunes recognizes and loads the files from the disc.

    • 4

Select "MP3 Encoder" from the drop-down menu next to the phrase "Import Using:" in the "Import Settings" window. Click the "OK" button.

    • 5

Click the "Import CD" button. The files on the disc will be imported as MP3 files.
