Look at the package of glue to see if it contains specific instructions for glue removal. Depending on the type of glue that you are using, the packaging may offer a most appropriate way to remove the glue.

Try to figure out how long the glue has been on the plastic bottle. If you are using Elmer's glue or a similar brand of glue that is generally used in schools, and you notice immediately that you need to remove it from plastic before the glue is dry¸ take the bottle over to the sink. Let the water run until it is hot and run the hot water over the wet glue. The glue should start to loosen and come off the bottle. Use your finger to rub at the glue spot and help it loosen further. Continue to do this until all the glue is removed from the bottle.

Remove dry Elmer's or a similar type of glue from a plastic bottle by peeling it off. Start at a corner of the glue spot and slowly peel until the glue is removed. If the glue is only partially dry, wait for it to dry completely before attempting to peel it off.

Be careful if the glue you want to remove is hot glue like the type that you use in a glue gun. If you accidentally get this type of glue on a plastic bottle, wait to it dries. If you touch the hot glue before it dries you run the risk of burning yourself and smearing the glue, making it more difficult to remove. If you want the glue to dry faster, try blowing on it. It should be completely dry after several hours. When it has the look and feel of plastic, it will be safe to remove. Use your finger nail to push a corner of the glue up and peel it off slowly.
