Create a Baby Scrapbook

Your baby's first year of life speeds by very quickly so be sure to capture every moment. A scrapbook provides not just a place to stick photographs but also a place to tell the story of your baby's first year of life. You can create a piece of family history that can be enjoyed for many years to come. Plan well so that you do not miss a single event.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby-themed scrapbook
  • Scrapbook adhesive
  • Scrapbook stickers, cutouts and borders
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Sharp scissors
  • Good pens for journal writing
  1. Step 1

Decide on a theme for your baby scrapbook. Gather paper, stickers, cutouts and photos that match your theme. Play with arrangements before you attach items so that you have a well-planned layout. Include journal writing on your pages; it adds a great deal of personalization.

  2. Step 2

Create a family-tree page in your baby scrapbook to give your child a sense of history. With so many events in a new baby's life, this page may seem unimportant. However, your child will appreciate it in later years. Create your own family-tree layout or use online templates (see Resources below). Include a few anecdotes, pieces of advice or stories from family members.

  3. Step 3

Start your baby scrapbook well before the baby arrives with pages about your pregnancy. Write about the day you found out you were pregnant, family member reactions and hopes or dreams you have for your baby. Attach photos from ultrasounds, your pregnancy and baby showers in this section.

  4. Step 4

Your baby scrapbook should include pages about your child's birth. Include stories about that day, from the time you first thought "this is it" until your baby arrived. Add vital statistics from the birth such as length, weight, time, the doctor's name and attendees. Pictures of your baby's arrival and hospital souvenirs such as mom and baby ID bracelets, the bassinet name card and any flower enclosures make interesting page additions.

  5. Step 5

Be sure to include baby firsts. These might include first car ride, first day home, first visitor, first bath, first outfit, first stroller ride, first food, first tooth, and first time sitting up, crawling and walking. Accompany photos with stories from each of these first events.

  6. Step 6

First-year holidays make meaningful keepsake scrapbook pages. Along with your theme papers, stickers and photos, include journal writing that explains your family traditions.

  7. Step 7

Other traditional scrapbook pages include family trips, baby at bath time, baby sleeping, baby dressed up in mom or dad's clothes and baby with family members and pets.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to add journal writing. A finished scrapbook will not only have wonderful photos and layouts but will also tell the story of your baby's first year.
