Store-bought biscuits are OK when you are in a pinch, but if you have time, making your own dough is the better option. Homemade biscuit dough will make you twice as many biscuits as one package of store-bought biscuits. You can freeze the extra ones so that all you need to do is heat them up when you need them. Homemade biscuits are healthier and contain no preservatives.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sifter
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 tsp. of baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. of salt
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • Mixing bowl
  • Cookie sheet
  • Roller
  • Biscuit cutter
  1. Step 1

Hold a sifter over a large mixing bowl and dump in 2 cups of flour. Sift in to the bowl by lightly tapping the sides of the sifter.

  2. Step 2

Add 2 tsp. of baking soda and 1/2 tsp. of salt in to the mixing bowl. Combine ingredients.

  3. Step 3

Soften 4 tbsp. of butter (1/2 a stick) in the microwave. It should take about 20 seconds, but the time depends on your microwave. You can take the butter out ahead of time and allow it to soften naturally while sitting out on a countertop.

  4. Step 4

Use your hands to combine the softened butter with your flour baking soda mixture.

  5. Step 5

Pour in 3/4 cup of milk slowly. Keep mixing as you are pouring the milk in.

  6. Step 6

Sprinkle some flour on your workspace area and place the dough from the mixing bowl on it.

  7. Step 7

Spend 1 minute folding the dough over and pressing on it, then roll it out flat.

  8. Step 8

Use a biscuit cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out the dough. If you don't have either of these, cut out a circle with a sharp knife.

  9. Step 9

Place on a cookie sheet and insert into the oven at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bisquick (see Resources) also has a recipe on the box for homemade biscuits if you would rather use that than flour. Add some garlic powder or cheddar cheese to give the biscuits some flavor.
