Use an Airbrush for Makeup

Using an airbrush for makeup is the newest trend in makeup application. It involves pouring a few drops of liquid foundation into an airbrush gun and then spraying the makeup onto one's face, much like an artist may use it to airbrush a painting on a canvas or paper. With some practice and a steady hand, using an airbrush can soon replace your conventional method of applying makeup.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Airbrush gun
  • Liquid foundation
  • Liquid makeup for cheeks and eyes
  1. Step 1

Purchase an airbrush gun from your local makeup wholesale store. You can also purchase a regular airbrush gun used to paint traditional paintings from a hardware store. However, you will have much greater success if you purchase an airbrush specifically formulated for makeup application. Moreover, you can purchase a makeup airbrushing kit that comes equipped with the airbrush gun, air supply and bottles of liquid makeup.

  2. Step 2

Plug in the compressor and make sure it is running smoothly. Check your air source against a piece of paper to make sure you have an adequate supply of air. Checking the air source is important because it enables the spray gun to work effectively without clogging up or blowing chunks of makeup onto your face.

  3. Step 3

Shake the foundation and makeup bottles to remove air bubbles and smooth out clumps. Insert about 4 to 7 drops of liquid foundation into the small opening in the spray gun. Gently press on the throttle button and test the gun on a blank piece of paper to make sure it is working correctly.

  4. Step 4

Gently press the throttle on the airbrush gun and spray the makeup onto your face in slow, circular motions continuously. Do not stop on any one spot for a long period of time. Begin by applying a thin coat and then adding on subsequent layers for optimal coverage. Be careful not to overdo the application, which may result in an uneven appearance.

  5. Step 5

Take apart the airbrush gun afterward and clean it thoroughly with soap and warm water.

Tips & Warnings
  • First-time users should do a few practice sessions on willing volunteers to help them get the hang of using an airbrush for makeup. Avoid the eye area during application.
  • Don't press too hard on the throttle, as this may result in an uneven application.
