How to Remove a Dell Dimension 8200 CD-ROM Drive
The Dell Dimension 8200 desktop computer is equipped with a feature set geared toward users seeking a solution to their home office needs. The Dimension 8200's array of features includes a 2 GHz Pentium 2 processor, 256 MB of DDR SDRAM, 80 GB of hard drive space, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, Wi-Fi capabilities and four USB 2.0 ports. Turn off the computer. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Disconnect the power cord, attached peripheral devices and any other cables.

Tilt the computer on its side; the arrow on the bottom of the computer should be pointed upwards. Locate and press the release button on the bottom of the computer; lift the corner of the cover nearest this button. Locate the release button on the top of the computer and repeat the previous procedure. Steady the computer with one hand while using the other to pull the cover open.

Locate the CD-ROM drive you plan to remove. Disconnect the power cord and drive cable from the CD-ROM. Push the CD-ROM drive out through the front of the computer.

Unscrew the green plastic rails affixed to the CD-ROM drive. Save the screws and rails for future use. If installing a new drive, proceed as usual. Otherwise, insert the front panel insert into the front panel opening left and press it into place.

Lower the cover onto the computer and apply pressure until it snaps into place. Return the computer to an upright position.

Reconnect the power cord and all previously disconnected cables. Plug the power cord into an available electrical outlet. Your computer is now ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
Prepare a clean, well-lit workspace prior to removing the CD-ROM.
When not in use, store the screws and green plastic rails in a small plastic bag; tape the bag to the inside of the computer case.
When disconnecting the power cord and drive cable from the CD-ROM, always grip the plastic connector before pulling; do not attempt to disconnect by pulling on the cables.
When closing the cover, ensure that all cables are safely stowed inside the computer case and no spare parts have been left inside.
