Hip Hip Parade! If you're planning your child's next party at the park or an outdoor location with wide open spaces, you'll definitely want to kick off the festivities with a bicycle and wagon party parade. What better way to celebrate the guest of honor than to decorate bikes and wagons, and march around outside to an upbeat medley of party tunes! You'll definitely want to have your video camera ready for the main event.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bicycles and Wagons, of course! When you send out party invitations, instruct guests to arrive with a bike, wagon, scooter, or other desired ride-on toy.
  • Party Streamers in a rainbow of colors
  • Balloons in a variety of sizes and colors (It's easiest to have balloons already blown up before guests arrive.)
  • 8 1/2 x 11 White Card Stock (One sheet for each guest.)
  • Markers and/or Crayons, Glitter, Stickers
  • Scotch Tape; at least one roll per every four participants
  • Portable CD Player and Party Music CD
  1. Step 1

Have kids decorate their sheet of card stock for the birthday boy/girl using the crayons, makers, stickers, glitter, etc. Older kids may want to write messages such as, "Happy 5th Birthday, Cody," or "Shelby's Birthday Parade," etc.

  2. Step 2

Have each kid decorate his/her bike or ride-on, using the tape to attach his/her homemade sign, streamers, balloons and any other decorative supplies that have been provided.

  3. Step 3

Once the ride-on's are decorated, plug in the CD player and play some upbeat music. Led by the birthday boy or girl, have each kid ride his/her bike, etc. or pull his/her wagon along a course that you have designated beforehand.

  4. Step 4

At the end of the parade, collect the birthday signs and save as a keepsake for the guest of honor.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can't find a location big enough or have an indoor event planned at your home, a good idea is to have your bicycle and wagon party parade make its way through your very own neighborhood. Just make sure to have enough adults on hand to accompany the caravan of preschoolers on their march.
  • A bicycle and wagon party parade isn't just for birthday parties either. You can customize a parade for just about any holiday by using holiday themed decorations and music. A Christmas parade and Fourth of July parade are just a few of the fun possiblilities. Be creative!
