  1. Step 1

When whistle training a dog it is best to teach them the basics first. (Sit, Stay, Down, Come)

  2. Step 2

After your dog has learned the basics whistle training is very easy. Using sit as an example, you will give your dog the sit command. Right after you give the command and your dog starts to sit give your whistle a blow. Praise your dog with a treat and a good sit.

  3. Step 3

To train different commands with the whistle use different tones. (Examples. Shorts quick blows, one long blow) After a while your dog will connect the command with the tone of the whistle. Many hunters will use whistles because dogs can hear them better and further then yelling.

  4. Step 4

Soon your dog will be able to take commands with just a blow of the whistle. Just remember to be patient with your dog, it will take time but they will learn. Work with your dog in 5 to 10 minute sessions for the best learning results.
